Senior Team of the Year Selection

Purpose

Each season a team of 12 Senior players will be selected as the Golden Grove Cricket Club Senior Team of the Year.  This recognises players who have had an outstanding season.  Each Senior Team of the Year also serves to help select the Golden Grove Cricket Club Senior Team of the Decade; a player is not eligible for the Senior Team of the Decade without featuring in at least one Senior Team of the Year during the relevant period.

 Selection Committee

 The Selection Committee shall be comprised of three people appointed by the Club Committee. 

 Selection Criteria

  •  A player who has been suspended by the Golden Grove Cricket Club (“the Club”) is NOT eligible for selection in the Senior Team of the Year.

  • A player who has been sanctioned by an association with which the Club is affiliated is eligible for selection in the Senior Team of the Year at the discretion of the Club Committee.

  • A team of 12 will be selected each year from all senior grades.

  • A representative from each grade is not necessary.

  • The team shall consist of 11 players and a 12th man.

  • There is no set combination of players but must include two players capable of opening the batting, two players capable of opening the bowling and a wicket keeper (“the essential roles”)

  • A player may fill two essential roles.  For example, a wicket keeper may open the batting.

  • Selection is based primarily on statistics but team balance must be considered.

  • If two players cannot be easily split on statistics, the player who has played a majority of his/her cricket in a higher grade shall be selected.

  • The captain shall be selected once the team has been selected.

  • The captain shall be selected based on the following criteria:

  • Success (for example, a Third XI premiership winning captain shall be appointed over a Second XI captain if they are both in the team of the year)

  • If the captains cannot be split by success, they shall be appointed based on order of teams.
